Crete: from the White Mountains to the sea

Friday 16 – Sunday 25 October 2009 (Greece)

A new adventurous trekking, for experienced and trained walkers, according to the “deep walking” style. In this island unique and perfect for walking, the 7-day ring route starts and returns to Omalos. First you will cross the “White Mountains” as high as their top, Mount Pachnes (2.453 m), then you will take a long walk on the coast, broken off by dives in the Libyan Sea, Agios Pavlos, Agia Roumeli as far as Sougia and back across the mountains of the Omalos Plateau and the top of Mount Gigilos. Cretan nature is unique; the scent of the bush, the dizzy gorges, the agrimis – wild goats resembling chamois – the history of a very old and unique civilization with a strong magic symbology (spirals, labyrinths, bees). Lodging is foreseen with landladies, but for 3 nights it is necessary to be equipped to sleep in the open air. Typical local food is always very good, from the breakfast with yoghourt and honey, Greek salads, tzatziki, etc. Besides the trekking, we shall spend some time on the beach and visit the beautiful Arab-Venetian town of Hania.
To make the journey more valuable, you will enjoy the experience of meditative and self-conscious walking proposed by the guide, following the traditions of Buddhist Zen and Toltec Shamanism. And, as usual in all the “deep walking” trekking, you will be served vegetarian food.
